History

Mulino, Oregon, named after a flour mill established in 1851, was originally called "Howards Mill." The name "Mulino" is a corruption of the Spanish word for mill, "molino." The Mulino post office was established in 1882 and is one of the oldest continuously operating post offices in Oregon. The historic Howard's Gristmill, now a private residence, is the oldest industrial building still standing in the state.

Local Government

In May 2007, Mulino residents voted to become a hamlet, making it the third such community in Oregon. Official hamlet status was granted by Clackamas County on June 7, 2007.
